AI Games are video games that use artificial intelligence to create highly realistic & responsive non-player characters whose behavior is informed by the player’s actions allowing for more dynamic gameplay. Generative AI enables new game levels, quests, challenges & environments to be generated based on the players actions, resulting in endless possibilities for the player to experience the world of the game in different ways.More info :
Unlike traditional game AI that uses rules, neural networks, and heuristics to make decisions like the “if the robot is moving toward something, it must be attacking” rule, generative AI uses an algorithmic approach to create the next level, challenge or experience based on data from the previous level. This is similar to how human authors create stories and plots. The player then interacts with this next level of the game and decides what happens.
AI in Nonlinear Game Storytelling
Some of the more interesting generative AI games that have been developed include Astronauts which allows the player to create a communication system with the AI player over the first 2-3 turns of each scenario. The AI player shares clues with the astronauts via thought bubbles that can be read by the players, this allows the players to build an understanding of what the game is trying to tell them and helps build a more engaging and immersive interaction.
Another interesting generative AI game is Muse which allows the players to play against a neural network derived from over 100,000 hours of recorded gameplay. The neural network attempts to predict what the player will do based on the choices they have made in the past, it is an interesting way to test the intelligence of the players.
